How Ultrasound Works – In Animal Pregnancy Detection
Ultrasound technology uses high-frequency sound waves (usually 2–8 MHz) emitted through a probe (transducer). When these waves hit tissues and fluid boundaries in the animal’s body, echoes return to the probe. The system converts them into a real-time grayscale image, allowing the veterinarian to:
Detect fetal sacs and embryo location
Measure fetal development (e.g. CRL – Crown-Rump Length)
Monitor fetal heartbeat
Confirm single or multiple pregnancies
This non-invasive, radiation-free method is safe for both humans and animals – making it the gold standard for reproductive health diagnostics in veterinary medicine.
